Chennai: In a shocking incident, a seven-year-old girl was killed by a youth at suburban Mugalivakkam after a failed attempt to molest her. The girl, a class four student of a private school, went missing since February five. Acting on a complaint from her parents, Mangadu police formed special teams to trace the child, when they found a partially burnt body of a young girl in an abandoned land near Anakaputhur early this morning.

It was later identified that it was that of the missing girl by her parents. Police collected CCTV camera footages from the area which helped in solving the case. ''The footages showed the girl entering the house of Dashwanth, a 23-year-old mechanical engineer, residing near her house. When the girl's parents left home for shopping, the girl went to his home at 6.30 pm. After three hours the accused comes out with a trolley bag and leaves the place.

Around 10.30 PM he returns home without the bag and goes inside his home again,' police said. He confessed to police that he tried to molest the girl. ''When the girl raised alarm, he suffocated her with a pillow and killed''. Fearing arrest, he stuffed her body inside the trolley bag and took it to the open land in Anakaputhur and burnt it, police said. The youth was arrested and remanded in custody.(UNI)
