India allows Bangladesh to use border roads of NE

India allows Bangladesh to use border roads of NE
, Wednesday, 29 March 2017 (11:52 IST)
Agartala: The Central government has agreed to provide security and other logistics support to the Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB), besides allowing them to use Indian border roads in Tripura and Mizoram for the construction of Border Out Posts (BOPs) on the other side of the border at Chittagong Hill Tracts (CHT) area. Officials here today said a long stretch of southern Bangladesh along CHT region has been unmanned for long and is being used by anti-Indian forces. Due to difficult terrain and inaccessible geography, wire fencing along Indo-Bangla border has been affected.

As a result, a sizable borderline in the eastern part of Tripura and south-western part of Mizoram is still porous and used as an open corridor by the anti-nationals and border criminals, officials said, adding that the Bangladesh side did not have any security. Recently, the BGB authority had asked the Indian government to allow their country to use Indian border roads for construction of BOPs on Bangladesh side as part of its multi-pronged approach to security arrangements at the borders to stop smuggling and infiltration.

The arrangements include deployment of Border Guarding Force (BGF), construction of border fence and border roads, installation of floodlights, construction of Border Out Posts (BOPs), introduction of Hi-tech surveillance equipment, providing advanced weapons and specialised vehicles to Security Forces, officials added.
