India and Bangladesh sign 22 agreements

New Delhi: India and Bangladesh today signed 22 agreements in several key areas, including civil nuclear cooperation, defence, security, trade and energy. Prime Minister Narendra Modi also announced a line of credit worth 500-million-dollar to Bangladesh for meeting its defence related requirements. These announcements came after comprehensive talks between Mr Modi and his Bangladeshi counterpart Sheikh Hasina, who is on a four-day visit to India on key bilateral, regional and international issues that concern the two neighbours.

 After their one-on-one meeting at the Hyderabad House here, the two Prime Ministers were joined by their respective delegations. Though the crucial Teesta water sharing issue was on agenda, no agreement could be reached on it as PM Modi said in his statement that he hoped an early solution of the Teesta water sharing. Both the Prime Ministers described their talks as "productive.' PM Modi described Bangladesh as a "long standing and trusted partner' while Sheikh Hasina said that India was the "most important neighbour' and pledged to keep borders between the two countries peaceful.
