Srinagar: Expressing shock over lynching to death a 20-year-old youth by cow vigilantes in Rajouri in Jammu region, former chief minister and PDP president Mehbooba Mufti on Wednesday said such things were previously unheard of in Jammu and Kashmir.

Ms Mehbooba urged Lt Governor Manoj Sinha to ensure that culprits are punished and the family of the victim is taken care of.

“Shocked to know that a 20-yr-old man was lynched to death by cow vigilantes in Rajouri. He leaves behind a paralysed father & three sisters. Such things were previously unheard of in J&K. Request @manojsinha_ ji to ensure that culprits are punished & his family is taken care of,” Ms Mehbooba wrote on micro-blogging site twitter.

In a shocking incident, a youth, identified as Aijaz Dar, and two other people were attacked allegedly by ‘cow vigilantes' while they were transporting a buffalo for domestic use on a load carrier from Laam side near Nowshera in Rajouri. “The trio was injured in the attack,” sources said, adding the wounded were rushed to Government Medical College hospital in Jammu, where Dar succumbed.
