Srinagar: Police has prevented 14 misguided youth from joining militants ranks and reunited them with their families in south Kashmir district of Anantnag, a police spokesperson said here on Tuesday.

He said information was received that 14 youth in the age group of 18-22 years were in constant touch with various local militants over social media. “The youth were also being lured by militants based in Pakistan to get recruited in militant ranks,” he said.

He said police conducted a counselling-cum-interaction session with these delinquent youth so as to prevent them from falling prey to pro-militancy and anti-national propaganda. “The youth were counselled and handed over to their parents at District Police Office Anantnag,” he said.

During the counselling session, Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Anantnag Imtiyaz Hussain advised the parents to take proper care of their wards and keep a watch upon their activities, actions and behaviour.

He further said that parents should come forward and report any such activity of their wards so that they are mainstreamed through counselling by experts.

Many counselling sessions were held by police officers for past many days with these vulnerable youth belonging to various areas of Anantnag district. “Community members and their parents have expressed their gratitude to Anantnag Police for this kind gesture and thereby saving life of the youth,” the spokesperson added.
