New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the chief architect of BJP's victory in the just concluded assembly elections, today walked into the Lok Sabha with the ruling BJP members welcoming him with thumping of desks. Some enthusiastic ruling party Members also raised slogans like 'Jai Shri Ram' and kept on thumping the desks for couple of minutes. Today was the first day Mr Modi came to the House since BJP's unprecedented and landslide victory in the assembly elections in Uttar Pradesh.
Later, during Zero Hour, members showed similar gestures to the ailing External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj - as she came in to make a statement on the attacks on Indians in the United States. As she walked into the House, Ms Swaraj was received by members from both sides with thumping of desks. Members, including Union Ministers, were also up on their feet while she was being led to her seat among others by Union Water Resources Minister Uma Bharti. Mr Kharge wished Ms Swaraj a long and healthy life while another Congress Member Jyotiraditya Scindia came to her seat and exchanged pleasantries.
A smiling Speaker Sumitra Mahajan also said it was delightful to see the senior Minister walk into the House. Ms Swaraj had undergone kidney transplant operation on December 10, 2016 and has been on recovery since then. After Ms Swaraj made the statement, amid thumping of desks, the Speaker said, "It was good to hear your 'dam daar (powerful)' voice once again resonate here." Earlier, responding to the gestures shown by members including from Opposition members, Ms Swaraj said, "Thank you Madam, Kharge-ji. I want to thank the entire House for their good wishes. It is because of all your blessings and my faith in Lord Krishna that I have completely recovered and returned to the House," Ms Swaraj said. (UNI)
