Jallikattu issue, TN on boil as crowd protest swells, stir spreads to districts

Chennai: Thousands of youths, including college students, continued to assemble on the Marina beach front for the second day and staged a protest demonstration demanding holding of the bull taming sport of Jallikattu, which was banned by the Supreme Court. The agitation, which began at Jallikattu holding venues of Avuniapuram, Palamedu and Alanganallur in Madurai during Pongal, spread to various parts of Tamil Nadu with, people cutting across barriers, hitting the streets in large numbers to express their solidarity with the supporters of the sport.
 

Apart from Madurai and Chennai, protests by the youth, especially students, were being held in Coimbatore, Thanjavur, Cuddalore, Dindigul, Pudukottai, Kanniyakumari, Virudhunagar, Tiruchirapalli, Ramanathapuram, Thanjavur, Nagapattinam, Tiruvarur, Theni, Tirunelveli, Sivaganga and other districts. The students boycotted classes and indulged in various forms of agitations like human chains, road and rail roko, protest demonstrations, and rallies. (UNI)
