Jammu and Kashmir: Woman dies after 'faith healer' beats her to 'remove evil spirit'

Srinagar: Jammu and Kashmir Police on Wednesday arrested a “faith healer” along with two other persons over the death of a woman allegedly after she was beaten up on the pretext to "drive out evil spirit” from her body in Shopian.

Sources said that the woman, identified as Souby Jan, wife of Muzzafar Ahmad Sheikh of Damhal Hanjipora in Kulgam district, was beaten up by the “faith healer” on Tuesday “apparently to exorcise some evil spirit” at her parental home in Hanjipora Kachdoora, Shopian.

The woman fainted and became unconscious, she was taken to District Hospital Kulgam where she breathed her last, the official said.

The “faith healer” identified as Zakir Ahmad Naik of Sangand Qazigund, has been arrested by the police

 Police have also arrested the husband of the deceased woman and a "disciple" of the so called faith healer, sources said. (UNI)
