Dhanbad: Four labourers lost their lives as a mud heap fell upon them while they were busy constructing a railway underpass at Chatakuli village near Pradhankhanta railway station under Dhanbad district of Jharkhand.
Police on Wednesday said that the incident took place around midnight. At that time six labourers were working in underpass construction site when suddenly the mud heap fell in which four of the labourers died while two others survived.
The deceased have been identified as Niranjan Mahto (45), Pappu Kumar Mahto (40), Vikram Kumar Mahto (30) and Sourav Kumar Dhivar (25). Upon receiving Dhanbad DRM Ashish Bansal along with senior officials of the RPF and GRP reached on the spot.
The relatives and family members of the deceased sat on a dharna from the midnight itself demanding compensation which was cleared early morning. Due to the agitation train traffic movement was impacted for four hours.
The locals claimed that a goods train had passed over the tracks due to which the mud heap fell on the workers who were working 10 feet below due to which they got trapped and lost their lives. (UNI)
