Sources said that activists of the All India Students Association were also protesting the ABVP’s disruption of the event . Terming the ABVP disruption of the event as an attack on their freedom of expression, the students shouted slogans against them. The ABVP yesterday disrupted an event , organised by the literary society of the college, for which Jawaharlal Nehru University students Umar Khalid and Shehla Rashid were invited, prompting the college to withdraw the invitations.
The college was forced to call off the seminar after heated protests against Rashid and Khalid, who was accused of shouting anti-India slogans last year. Umar Khalid was invited by the college’s Literary Society to speak in the afternoon on a subject related to his PhD, which he is doing from JNU. His topic at the seminar was ‘The War in Adivasi Areas’. JNUSU vice-president Rashid was to attend the event today. Meanwhile, expressing disappointment over the entire episode, Mr Khalid in a series of posts on Facebook yesterday, alleged that police failed to take action against the protestors. (UNI)
