Karnataka proposes syllabus in Madrasa

Mangaluru:The Karnataka government plans to introduce a syllabus for students studying in Madrasas across the state, Minister for Textiles and Minorities Welfare Srimantha Balasaheba Patil said.
Speaking to newsmen here, he said as per this plan, students will receive a certificate equivalent to SSLC which will help them to enrol in PUC or other courses. Children in Madrasas had been deprived of formal education.
 
"To implement a syllabus for students of Madrasas, consultations were held with members of Muslim community leaders and education experts. In addition to religious education, Madrasa students will also be taught English, Mathematics and other subjects," he added.
 
A meeting of textile experts and entrepreneurs will be convened at the Investors meet in Bengaluru on February 23.The department had decided to confer 'Nekara Prashasthi' award to five weavers in the State every year. The award will be presented this year on August 7, he added.(UNI)
