Kerala: Youth dies after swallowing 2 packets of MDMA to flee from police custody in Kozhikode

Kozhikode: A drug-peddler died on Saturday while undergoing treatment at Kozhikode Medical College hospital after swallowing two packets of MDMA tablets in an attempt to flee from police custody.

According to police, on March 7 (Friday), the Thamarassery police were pursuing him on suspicion at Ambayathode, but he tried to flee and then swallowed two packets of MDMA tablets to evade arrest.

However, police took him to custody and during questioning, he confessed that he swallowed two packets of MDMA tablets of around 130 grams.

Police immediately took him to Thamarassery taluk hospital for medical examination and from there, shifted to Kozhikode Medical College hospital and made him undergo gastro enodology examination, whose test report came positive.

He died while undergoing treatment at around 1000 am at Medical College hospital.

The deceased, identified as E Shanid (28) of Maikave near Thamarassery, had a past history of being involved in drug related cases under two police stations at Thamarassery and Kodenchery in Kozhikode district.

The post-mortem report will reveal further details of cause of the death.

The Thamarassery police has registered a case under NDPS (Narcotics Drugs & Psychotropic Substances) Act in this connection, sources added.
