Kiran Bedi removed as Puducherry LG

Puducherry: Puducherry Lt Governor Kiran Bedi has been removed from the post of the Lt Governor here on Tuesday.

According to Raj Niwas sources, a Rashtrapati Bhawan Communique says that president has directed that Dr Kiran Bedi shall cease to hold the post of the Lt Governor of Puducherry and Telangana Governor Tamilisai has been directed to discharge the functions of the LG of Puducherry.

Dr Bedi assumed office as the Lt Governor here in May 2016 and regular confrontations were there with her and Chief Minister V Narayanasmay of the Congress.

The Puducherry Cabinet and Congress functionaries sat in dharna once in front of the Raj Niwas and later near the Anna square demanding the recall of Bedi. Last week, the chief minister met the president and submitted a memorandum alleging that the LG had stalled the development of the union territory and demanded her recall. He also submitted a list of signatures collected here demanding her recall. (UNI)
