Kolkata: An infant and two women were killed and many wounded in house collapse incidents, triggered by heavy rains across West Bengal, official sources said on Wednesday.

Parts of a dilapidated two-storey brick-built building at Ahiritola Lane in north Kolkata collapsed this morning and some 17 people got stuck under its rubble.

Personnel from the city police, fire brigade and NDRF had launched rescue operations along with the help of local people amid rains and retrieved them one after another.

Senior ministers Firhad Hakim, Sashi Panja and Sujit Basu went there to oversee the rescue operation.

Mr Hakim said over 100 dilapidated buildings across the city were in danger because of litigation between the tenants and landlords.

Elsewhere, a 35-year-old housewife was buried alive when her mud house collapsed in Kronghi village under Chandramona in West Medinipur. (UNI)
