New Delhi: The Samyukt Kisan Morcha has given a call to black roads in Punjab from 12 noon to 2 pm on Sunday while demanding the sacking of the IAS officer who was caught on camera ordering use of force against farmers.
"Against Haryana Police, we appeal to farmers organizations in Punjab to demand that the Duty Magistrate (SDM) should be terminated from his job for ordering the torture and terrible lathicharge on farmers yesterday," SKM member Darshan Pal said in a Facebook post.
"Action should also be taken against police officers and compensation for the injured farmers by getting them free treatment. With these demands, we call for a protest against yesterday's police action by jamming the roads of Punjab from 12 pm to 2.00 pm," Pal said.
A lathi charge was carried out against farmers in Karnal on Saturday, where farmers were gathering at the Gharaunda toll plaza to protest against the visit of Haryana Chief Minister ML Khattar, and other BJP leaders.
On Saturday farmers blocked highways in Haryana against the action, which also drew flak from the Opposition who compared the act with the actions of Brigadier General Dyer at the Jallianwala Bagh in 1919.
In a video that went viral, Karnal's Sub-Divisional Magistrate (SDM) Ayush Sinha was seen standing in front of a group of policemen and instructing them to "break the heads" of protesting farmers, drawing severe criticism.
