Lodge owner killed in firing over money dispute in Kolhapur

Kolhapur: In a shocking incident, a lodge owner was killed on the spot in a firing when two assailants fired rounds from close range in a money feud.
 
The incident occurred late at night Sunday at Donvade village Phata in Karveer tehsil of this district, on the Kolhapur-Gaganbavda national highway.
 
According to Karveer police, deceased Chandrakant Abaji Patil (50), owner of a lodge at Donvade Phata on the highway, had given some cash to two people, residents of nearby Khupire village in Karveer tehsil, and made persistent demands for the return of the amount.

With the daily demands of the lodge owner, irate two suspected assailants came to the lodge and fired shots in his stomach from their pistols at close range. In this incident, lodge owner Chandrakant was killed on the spot as he fell into a pool of blood.
 
After receiving information, the Karveer police team rushed to the spot and, in a search operation, arrested two assailants who are yet to be identified.
 
Additional SP Nilesh Khatmode-Patil is camping at the door with other top police officers to supervise the investigation of the incident. (UNI)
