Aurangabad: Heavy rains have continued in most of the districts for the last four days in the Marathwada region of Maharashtra disrupting normal life, officials informed on Wednesday.
Reports from Nanded district stated that, due to continuous rains since the last three days roads connecting many villages in Hadgaon and Himayatnagar talukas have been submerged, cutting off communication with them. The Sita river in Mudkhed taluka has been flooded and two people are feared to be trapped in the flood.
Taking into account the warning of heavy rains in Nanded district, the education department has announced holidays for all educational institutions from class I to XII on Wednesday.
Two gates of Shankarrao Chavan Vishnupuri major dam near the Nanded city were opened on Tuesday and water is being released in Godavari river and the residing citizens of Godavari have been forewarned about this. The water level of Panganga river has risen in Nanded, Hingoli and Yavatmal districts due to continuous rains since last week. As a result, Sahastrakund waterfall has been overflowing in Nanded district.
Due to incessant rains in Latur district, projects on Manjra, Terna and Tawarja rivers have been flooded.
Therefore, water will be released from this project in Manjra, Terna and Tawarja rivers as required. Against this backdrop, the administration has issued a warning to the people especially the farmers living along the river.
Reports from Hingoli and Beed districts stated that, rains continue to lash for five days continuously.
While rains have also been reported in many parts of Osmanabad district.
In Parbhani district, most of the rivers, streams have been flooded.
Aurangabad district also received heavy rains on Tuesday. Due to torrential rains in Nashik, water is entering Nath Sagar of Paithan at a speed of above 50,000 cubic feet per second.
The catchment area of Jayakwadi Nathsagar Dam is receiving heavy rainfall and crossed it's level 43 percent this morning.
Executive Engineer, Irrigation Department, has ordered all the employees of the dam department to remain vigilant as the water level of Nath Sagar will rise rapidly.
The water level in Nathsagar was 40 per cent on Tuesday evening.
Report from Jalna district stated that most parts of the district, including Jalna city, have been receiving heavy rains since Tuesday morning. The week-long torrential rains in the district have hampered the growth of kharif crops and hampered inter-cropping. (UNI)
