Maharashtra: Pet turtle dies after falling from 20th floor, case registered against owner

Thane: The city police on Wednesday registered an FIR against the owner of a turtle for the death of the pet in the city by falling from 20th floor of a high rise.

The Kapurbawdi police said that an offence under section 11 (1) (a) of the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act, 1960 against Pratik Uttam Chore who is the owner of the dead turtle.

The offence is registered following a complaint by the Amma Care Foundation (ACF) and Plant & Animals Welfare Society - Mumbai (PAWS-Mumbai).

The turtle who died was a Red Eared Slider Turtle, the complaint by the NGO stated.

According to the complaint, the pet fell from the 20th floor of the building in Majiwada on May 01, at around 13.00 hours and died. The owner did not not bother to look into the fall and death and hence the complaint was filled against the owner, the police said, quoting the complaint by the NGOs office bearer.

The local police are probing into the crime and no arrest has been made in this regards so far. (UNI)
