Maharashtra: Rape victim hangs self in Nagpur after accused released on bail

Nagpur: A 16-year-old girl allegedly died by suicide after the man, who was accused of rape by the girl, was recently released from jail on bail in Nagpur city of Maharashtra, police said here on Wednesday.

According to police, the victim, who was living with her father, stepmother and brother, allegedly hanged herself from the ceiling at her home in Jaripatka area on Monday.

The girl was allegedly raped by a relative of her stepmother in June this year, following which a police complaint was lodged and the accused was arrested.

The girl was in depression ever since. The accused was released on bail from the central jail.

A case of accidental death has been registered with Jaripatka police station. (UNI)
