Srinagar: Troops foiled yet another major infiltration bid when they gunned down four heavily- armed militants in Uri in north Kashmir district of Baramulla. A defence ministry spokesman Rajesh Kalia told UNI that troops noticed a group of militants sneaking into this side from Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK) in Rampora sector in Uri last night.
However, when challenged and asked to surrender, the militants, who had entered this side under the cover of darkness, opened indiscriminate firing with automatic weapons. Troops also retaliated and in the encounter, four militants were killed so far, Col Kalia said, adding that the operation was going on when the reports last came in. He said entire forest area near the Line of Control (LoC) has been sealed after reinforcement was rushed from nearby camp. Yesterday, two Border Action Team (BAT) soldiers of Pakistan Army were killed in the Uri sector after they sneaked into this side. (UNI)
