Mumbai: A division bench of the Bombay High Court comprising Justices Ranjit More and Shalini Phansalkar Joshi accepted the bail application of 2008 Malegaon blast case accused Sadhvi Pragya Singh Thakur on a cash surety of Rs 5 Lakh. However, Lieutenant Colonel Prasad Shrikant Purohit bail plea was rejected.

The arguments on both the sides were earlier concluded before the bench after which the court has reserved its order. Thakur in her bail application had challenge the rejection of her bail by a special trial court which tries terror cases probed by the National Investigation Agency (NIA) under Unlawful Activity (Prevention) Act.

In her application she had contended that the bike in which the bomb was planted did not belong to Thakur. The NIA had earlier said that it had no objection to the court granting bail to Thakur. But B A Desai, counsel for an intervenor family of blast victim Nisar Bilal pointed to what he said was "incriminating evidence against the accused."

Meanwhile the NIA , while defending their case against Purohit and opposing his bail, told the court that Purohit had participated in many meetings of the right wing organisation Abhinav Bharat where "he used to give provocative speeches". (UNI)
