New Delhi: Prominent personalities from various walks of life, including the grandson of late B R Ambedkar Prakash Ambedkar, senior lawyers Sanjay Hegde and Shehzad Poonawalla today released the draft law of 'Manav Suraksha Kanoon' (MASUKA) against mob lynching which they said had become a "Common phenomenon ' in the country recently and cried for urgent attention by the civilised society.

Addressing a gathering here , Mr Prakash Ambedkar said," We will take the law in Parliament and urge the government to pass it. A Mob lynching against a person , a community, a society or group is being practiced in the country like a religious ritual nowadays. Earlier, only dalits were lynched. That practice was abolished after decades of political and societal intervention.''

Mr Ambedkar said that a crime like lynching should have no place in a multi-cultural society like India. 'Therefore, it should be nipped in the bud before it develops roots in India. For that , a bill against lynching called the MASUKA needs to be passed in Parliament to convey a clear and strong message that India stands in this favour of 'Mob lynching' and will not tolerate it at any cost,''he said.

Terming the killing of people or attacking a community in the garb of "religion protected" or "saviour of rights" as akin to robbing the other person's fundamental right to life , freedom and liberty, he said,''the so called Gau rakshakas are actually "Manav bhakshaks". They derive pleasure out of creating violence and satisfy their cruel instinct by indulging in murder. The disciplined society which wants to stay in communal harmony and at peace with all has to win over these vigilantes and therefore i urge the government to pass the bill as early as possible.'' (UNI)
