Srinagar: A militant was reportedly killed by security forces in an encounter, which ensued during a Cordon and Search Operation (CASO) in north Kashmir district of Bandipora on Thursday, official sources said.
They said on a tip-off about the presence of militants, Rashtriya Rifles (RR), Special Operation Group (SOG) of Jammu and Kashmir police and CRPF launched a joint search operation at Shookbaba, Bandiporal.
When the security forces were sealing the area, militants opened fire with automatic weapons, which was retaliated, ensuing in an encounter. A militant was reportedly killed in the encounter, they said, adding that the body was yet to be recovered.Sources said four to five militants were hiding in the area, when the operation was launched.
