Srinagar: An unidentified militant was killed and a security man was injured in an encounter in the central Kashmir district of Badgam today, official sources said here. Acting on a tip-off about the presence of the militants, security forces and Special Operation Group (SOG) of Jammu and Kashmir police launched a joint operation in Machoo area on Srinagar-Charar-e-Sharief road in Badgam district in the wee hours.
As security forces were sealing the particular area, the militants opened fire, the sources said, adding that in the retaliatory firing, a militant was killed. A security man was also injured in the encounter, they added. The slain militant has not been identified so far, they said, adding that some arms and ammunition were recovered near the site of encounter. (UNI)
