Mizoram: 54-yr-old neighbour touched private parts of 4-yr-old-girl; 3-yr-old brother tells mother who was in bathroom during the incident

Aizawl: A 54-year-old man was convicted by a special court (POCSO) in south Mizoram’s Lunglei judicial district and sentenced him to undergo rigorous imprisonment of 5 years and to pay a fine of Rs. 5,000, in default payment to additional 20 days in prison.

Special Judge (POCSO) Vanlalenmawia convicted a 54-year-old-man belonging to a locality in Lunglei town for commission of a crime under section 10 Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act (POCSO), 2012.

Vanlalenmawia pronounced the judgment and order as well as quantum of punishment (sentence) on Thursday.

The prosecution said that the convicted person touched the private parts of a 4-year-old-girl on February 9 last in the presence of the girl’s 3-year-old younger brother while their mother was in a bathroom. The girl and the boy went to the next door neighbour’s home while the mother was in the bathroom and the mother rushed to the neighbour’s home hearing their cries.

She was told by her daughter that the accused touched her private parts and her younger brother also confirmed it. A complaint was submitted resulting in the arrest of the accused and followed by a trial in the court.
