Aurangabad: Maratha Kranti Morcha (MKM) activist Datta Bhokare Patil consumed poison at Kranti Chowk here over the Maratha reservation issue.

Before taking the extreme step last evening, he posed questions to students in the community live on Facebook.

He is undergoing treatment at Government Medical College and Hospital (GMCH) where his condition is stated to be stable.

Bhokare-Patil, who is leading the MKM, has said live on Facebook, “Students have suffered because the issue of Maratha reservation has not been resolved.”

Accusing the government of just doing politics, he said the community did a commendable job by resorting to agitation at Sashti Pimpalgaon of Ambad Ambad taluka in Jalna district of this Marathwada region.

‘The reason I came live is because ...’, he said emotionally, shutting down Facebook Live and then consuming poison.

Bhokare had tagged some people while going live. Seeing this, Kranti Chowk informed the police about it.

Bhokare is the city publicity chief of the All India Chhawa Maratha Association. He is also a resident of Shivajinagar area in the city.

Before going live on Facebook, he sent a message to Abhijeet Deshmukh that he was committing suicide for Maratha reservation.

He also informed Vinod Patil petitioner of Kranthi morcha who immediately contacted the Kranti Chowk police station. He was immediately taken him to GMCH.

Now, his condition was stable, Mr Patil said. (UNI)
