Agartala: The MLA Brishaketu Debbarma who was part of the ruling BJP-IPFT government on Thursday joined royal scion Pradyot Kishore Debbarman's party TIPRA Motha along with about 3,000 of his followers.
He was elected for the first time from the Simna assembly constituency of West Tripura on an IPFT ticket but had tendered his resignation two weeks ago. Raising procedural mistake the Speaker has not yet accepted the resignation and in the meantime, his desertion from IPFT further increased pressure on the government.
Brishaketu was welcomed by TIPRA Motha Chairman Pradyot Kishore Debbarman in the Hezamara community hall. Addressing the gathering Pradyot urged the indigenous people to unite for the development of the state. He called upon the people to maintain peace and harmony and concentrate on development.
Meanwhile, Brishaketu expressed displeasure over the functioning of BJP-IPFT government in the state and shifting of stands of IPFT. (UNI)
