Mumbai: 5 drown during Ganesh Visarjan, 2 rescued

Mumbai: Five boys drowned in the sea at Versova Jetty in suburban Mumbai out of whom two were rescued during immersing Ganpati idol on the last day of Ganesh Visarjan ceremony on Sunday, officials said Monday.

According to Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC). "In an unfortunate turn of events, five boys who ventured into the sea for Ganesh idol immersion, reportedly drowned at Versova Jetty. Two boys were rescued by locals and sent to Cooper Hospital. Their conditions are stable.

Officials also said the rescue operation for the remaining three is in progress by using life boats and manilla rope, LED lights by Flood Rescue Team, F/M & life guard using the ferry boat inside the sea at the drown spot & in the surrounding areas in the sea.

One fire engine Lifeguards and a team of FRT are engaged in rescue operation. (UNI)
