Mumbai: 4 labourers die of asphyxiation during cleaning of water tank in building

Mumbai: Four labourers died, and another was seriously injured due to suffocation while cleaning the underground water tank of an underconstruction building in Nagpada area of South Mumbai on Sunday.

According to sources in the Fire Brigade, the incident occurred at 1229 pm when the private labourers were cleaning the underground water tank at Bismillah Space building on Dimtimkar Road in Nagpada.

Immediately the Fire Brigade was informed about incident, and victims were rescued from the tank.

Sources said that the victims were rushed to government-run J J Hospital, but four of them were declared dead before admission.

The deceased were identified as Hasipal Shaikh (Male / 19 years), Raja Shaikh (M/20), Jiaulla Shaikh (M/36) and Imandu Shaikh (M/38).

While another worker Furqan Shaikh is admitted in the intensive care unit of J J Hospital as he developed respiratory problems due to suffocation, sources added.
