Mumbai Goa Bridge collapse: 25 goes missing, NDRF at rescue

Mumbai: An old bridge, which was constructed during British regime over Savitri River in neighbouring Raigarh district collapsed late last night, due to which two state buses and other vehicles were washed away. More than 25 people were feared drowned in choppy river.

Maharashtra Transport Minister Diwakar Raote said here that ''two state transport buses of Konkan division have fallen in the river, in which 20 to 22 people were travelling, some other private vehicles were also washed away in choppy river. He further said due to heavy rainfall in the region exact figure has not been availble,'' a team of ST has rushed to spot. District Guardian

Minister Praksh Mehta also rushed to the spot. He said two team of National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) , comprising 40 personnel in one team has already reached the spot to do the rescue operation, he added. The bridge connects Mumbai-Goa highway, it was constructed between Mahad and Poladpur taluka. Maharashtra Relief and Rehabitation Minister Chandrakant Patil said this was very old bridge. A new Bridge has already been constructed there, which is now operational. (UNI)
