New Delhi: New currency notes of Rs 2,000 denomination were recovered from two Pakistani terrorists, who were gunned down by the security forces today in RS Pura sector of Jammu and Kashmir, indicating that the newly-introduced currency has not only traveled across the border but reached to militant outfits. It is yet not clear whether the new notes recovered from the terrorists were genuine or fake.

According to photo released about the recoveries made from the slain terrorists, two notes of Rs 2,000 and several notes of Rs 100 in Indian currency were found along with weapons and other explosives. This is first such recovery of the new currency notes after the Government announced demonetisation of high value notes of Rs 500 and Rs 1,000 and introduction of Rs 2,000 note.

One of the stated objectives of demonetisation announced on November 8 was drying up terrorists funding and wiping out the fake currency notes in circulation, especially with the terror outfits operating from across the border. (UNI)
