New Delhi: Former Union Minister and senior Congress leader Ambika Soni on Sunday said that she has declined the offer to become the next Chief Minister of Punjab, a day after Captain Amarinder Singh quit from the CM's post amid infighting fuelled by state Congress chief Navjot Singh Sidhu.

"I was offered the post, but I have declined citing personal reasons," Soni told reporters here after being asked about whether she was asked to become the new Chief Minister by the party high command.

She said she kept her views before the Congress president and added that the name of the new CM will be finalised on Sunday.

"Next CM of Punjab should be a Sikh face," the senior party leader said.

Asked about internal tussles within the party, she categorically said, "There is no internal tussle."

Punjab is slated to go to Assembly polls next year. (UNI)
