New Delhi: Vinay Sharma, one of the four convicts on death row for gang rape and murder of a medical student in 2012, which later got infamy by name of Nirbhaya case, reportedly attempted suicide last night inside the Tihar Jail here. However, the convict's lawyer tried to dispute the officials' suicide version claiming it was attempt to murder.

According to sources, Vinay took sleeping pills and later tried to hang himself. Following the suicide bid, he was admitted to DDU hospital. Vinay's lawyer AP Singh, claimed that it was not an attempt to suicide but attempt to murder as he met Vinay two days back and he was complaining about torture by the jail authorities. According to Mr Singh, he was not in a mental state to have committed suicide. Earlier, in 2013, another convict in this case, Ram Singh had also died under mysterious circumstances. (UNI)
