Nitish asks Modi to strike at 'Benami property' to curb black money

Nitish asks Modi to strike at 'Benami property' to curb black money
, Sunday, 4 December 2016 (11:33 IST)
New Delhi: Janata Dal (United) President and Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar today said his party favoured demonetisation, but to completely root out black money from the system, Prime Minister Narendra Modi must unleash a war on "benami property," in which black money hoarders had saved their unaccounted wealth. Addressing the 'Political Workers' function organised by the party here, Mr Kumar said, 'Demonetisation alone will not serve the purpose.

The Government must bring back the cash stashed away in the foreign banks. Also, people invest heavily in jewellery to store their black money. Strong steps are needed to needle the root cause of generation of black money in the country.' Listing the various developmental steps taken by his Government, he said the prominent one is 'total ban on liquor'. From April 5, complete ban on liquor has been effected in Bihar.

Total 1.19-crore people signed a promise letter against the use of booze and crores wrote on walls that they would shun alcohol. 'Moreover, the Government plans to take out "Jan Chetana Nischay Yatra' against liquor use on January 21 in the state, in which around two-crore people are expected to participate, which would be a record in itself,' he added.
