Srinagar: Troops today foiled a major infiltration bid when they gunned down ten militants near the Line of Control (LoC) in Uri sector. Pakistani troops had violated ceasefire today in Uri sector where fidayeen had killed 18 soldiers and injured as many injured in an attack last week.
Official sources said troops noticed a group of militants sneaking into this side from Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK) in Uri sector. When challenged and asked to surrender, militants opened fire with automatic weapons, they said, adding that troops also retaliated and in the fierce encounter ten militants were killed. The operation was still going on when the reports last came in, they said.(UNI)
