New Delhi: The Opposition parties will observe 'Jan Akrosh Divas' today across the country to protest against the Modi government's decision to demonetise old currency notes of Rs 500/1,000 denomination. The call for the protest was led by Congress party and later other political parties joined it.

Earlier talking to reporters here, AICC media in charge Randeep Surjewala had said that November 28 will be observed as 'Jan Aakrosh Divas' by the Opposition. "Leaders and workers of the Congress across the country will carry out protests and rallies at the district headquarters to bring out the 'anti-people' face of this government,' he said.

However, West Bengal Chief Minister and Trinamool Congress chief Mamata Banerjee, who has been against the Centre for note-ban ,said that her party will not join the protests as it will create more trouble for the common man since they have been already suffering because of demonetisation.

The Janta Dal United party has also backed out of the protests. Arvind Kejriwal led the Aam Aadmi Party will hold countrywide protests against eight-lakh-crore demonetisation scam as claimed by them. On November 8, Prime Minister Narendra Modi had announced the demonetisation policy in a bid to curb out black money. (UNI)
