Coimbatore: Union Petroleum Minister Dharmendra Pradhan said over 10,000 new LPG distributors will be appointed before end of this year. Talking to media last evening the minister said that at present there were 18,000 distributors doing service and the country needed more as the government has planned to increase LPG usage to five crore more households in the next three years. He said the Centre will focus on Tamil Nadu districts with poor LPG coverage to provide cylinders to more families.
He said though this state LPG coverage is at 85 per cent, which was above national average of 71 per cent, still some few districts in the state has less than 50 per cent. Mr Pradhan said the ministry has chosen 50 cities in the country which include Chennai, Coimbatore, Tiruchi and Madurai in the state to provide digital transactions at refuelling stations and with LPG distributors in a large way.
