Srinagar: Two infiltrators of Pakistan’s Border Action Team (BAT) were killed when alert troops foiled an attack on an Army patrol near the Line of Control (LoC) in Baramulla district. Defence Ministry spokesperson Colonel Rajesh Kalia told UNI that heavily armed gunmen sneaked into this side at Gulhata post in Uri sector in Baramulla in the wee hours and tried to ambush an Army patrol. However, he said alert troops retaliated which resulted in a brief encounter.
Two infiltrators were killed in the exchange of fire, he said, adding a massive search operation has been launched and additional troops were rushed from nearby camps to foil any attempt by militants to escape. The deceased were later identified as members of BAT of Pakistan. Bodies of two soldiers were mutilated by Pakistan BAT in Jammu region early this month. Four militants and three soldiers were killed in an encounter in Nowgam sector near LoC in Kupwara district on May 21. Body of another militant was recovered in the woods of Kupwara along with arms and ammunition on May 24. (UNI)
