Kolkata: The West Bengal Assembly on Monday witnessed a ruckus after the opposition BJP MLAs created a ruckus over the recent killings in the Birbhum district leading to the suspension of five BJP legislators, including Suvendu Adhikari, from the Assembly, until further notice.

According to reports, the proceedings inside the assembly were disrupted after MLAs from the ruling TMC and the main opposition party BJP exchanged blows in the House over the recent Birbhum violence.

The assembly session was called in West Bengal on Monday. As soon as the assembly proceedings began, BJP MLAs leveled allegations against the TMC government and raised questions regarding violence and law and order in the state.

Leader of the Opposition Shubhendu Adhikari began speaking at the beginning of the session.

There was a fierce fight between BJP and TMC MLAs inside the Bengal Assembly. In this fight, TMC MLA Asit Majumdar was injured and BJP MLA Manoj Tigga's clothes were torn.

Asit Majumdar has been admitted to the hospital for treatment. Besides Adhikari, BJP legislators Dipak Burman, Shankar Ghosh, Manoj Tigga and Narahari Mahato were suspended by the Speaker for future sessions this year.

BJP MLAs also started raising slogans. During this there was fierce debate and sloganeering from both the sides. The MLAs got up from the seats and came to the well. They started shoving each other. When the security personnel present tried to pacify them, they were also manhandled.

The MLA's torn clothes are alleged to have been torn off pieces of paper and blown on the speaker. Slogans and beatings were done by getting into the bell.

BJP's Co-incharge of West Bengal Amit Malviya in a tweet said, “Absolute pandemonium in the West Bengal Assembly. After Bengal Governor, TMC MLAs now assault BJP MLAs, including Chief Whip Manoj Tigga, as they were demanding a discussion on the Rampurhat massacre on the floor of the house. What is Mamata Banerjee trying to hide?” (UNI)
