New Delhi: Parliament today passed the Finance Bill 2017-18 after the Lok Sabha rejected the five amendments adopted by the Rajya Sabha. The amendments passed by the Upper House were negated by voice vote after about one-and-half-hour debate on the Finance Bill with several Opposition Members insisting that at least the amendment on political funding as adopted by the Elders be accepted by the House.

However, responding to the Members, Finance Minister Arun Jaitley said the amendments could not be accepted as most of arguments, including on political funding, were based on editorial commentary made in newspapers.(UNI)
