What is Patta Chitta?
Established by the government,
Patta Chitta is a record of land revenues that shows ownership of the land. Patta Chitta, or the record of the land is kept in the Taluk office and is proof of the ownership of the land. The document of the revenue with its details which specifies all the owners of the land, is known as Patta. A part of Patta that gives out the information related to land ownership is known as Chitta.
What is Patta Chitta?Also known as the Record of Rights, Patta is the land revenue record of the people issued by the government of India. Details of Patta are as follows:

Earlier, they used to be two different documents but, since 2015, the government of Tamil Nadu has made important changes in the Chitta, and both the documents, Chitta and Patta, are merged together, forming Patta Chitta. Details in Chitta are also included in Patta. Now the government cannot issue a single Chitta like earlier.
Documents Needed When Applying for Patta Chitta are as follows:

Photocopy as well as original copy of the sale deed.

Proof of the fact that the property is yours. For example, it could be an electricity bill, document related to tax payment, or any related certificate.

Documents that state that you are the real owner of the property.

It is highly advised that you keep all your documents collected before you apply.
Following are the Ways You Can Apply for Patta Chitta Online:

Go on the official website of the Government of Tami Nadu.

In the next step, click ‘View Patta & FMB/Chitta/TSLR Extract’

Then a screen will appear on your device, which will ask the corresponding district and area type. That is whether it is an urban area or a Rural area.
After that, enter the following details on the next page:

Town
-
Ward no
-
Block
-
Survey number

Sub-division number

Then pay the statutory amount of Rs.100 and fill up the application form.

Lastly, a certificate will be issued from Town Survey Land Registration, consisting of details such as locality, the land type, the survey number, type of construction on the property, and so on.
How to Check the Status of the Patta Chitta?

Go to the Tamil Nadu e-district portal.

Then enter the application ID, fill up the captcha and click ‘Submit.

Lastly, click Get Status.
How to Check the Validity of the Patta Chitta?

Go to the e-Services Portal of the Tamil Nadu Government.

Then click on ‘Verify Patta Order copy’. It will take you to Land Records – Order Copy page.

After which, you add the Application ID and Authentication value.

Lastly, click the submit button.
