Army doesn't speak, but act, says PM Modi on Uri attack

Reassuring the nation that those behind the Uri terrorists attack will definitely get punished, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said the Armed Forces were fully equipped to foil any nefarious design against the country. Opening his monthly "Mann Ki Baat" radio programme by saluting 18 brave heart soldiers who laid down their lives during the terror attack on their camp, Mr Modi said the perpetrators of the attack will not be spared. He said the nation has full trust on Army, which is prepared to show its valour by its action.

"We are proud of our army. There may be numerous occasions for citizens and political leaders to speak and open their mind. But Army does not speak. Army shows its valour through its actions," he said. Turning to Kashmir, the Prime Minister said people of the state are becoming aware of the anti national and divisive forces. He said people in the Valley have begun to understand the truth and are treading on the path of peace. Mr Modi expressed his confidence that all the issues will be resolved through dialogue.

He said everyone wants normalcy to prevail in the state and go back to their day to day activities. He said peace, unity, compassion and harmony are the paths which will lead towards development and progress. Talking about the responsibility for security forces, Mr Modi said they should use all their resources and force to secure the people and maintain law and order.

India to ratify COP 21 on Oct 2: PM

Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced that India will ratify the COP 21 Global Climate Agreement on October 2, coinciding with the birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi. He said Mahatma Gandhi also followed the low carbon footprint. As many as 55 countries are needed to ratify the Agreement. India, at the 2015 Paris summit, had led the world in implementation of this agreement, said Mr Modi, during the concluding remarks at the three-day national council meeting of BJP, which ended here.

The agreement, negotiated in Paris in December 2015, sets out a global action plan to put the world on track by limiting global warming below 2 degree Celsius. The agreement was considered a victory of multi-laterism and one which helped correct the image perception of India. Mr Modi had led to a change in the perception and introduced the concept of climate justice, driving home the message of sustainable development.

The Prime Minister, referring to the philosophy of Pandit Deendayal Upadhyaya, said that even 50 years ago, he had shown concern for ecological balance and expressed anger against over exploitation of environment to meet the human needs, so that it could last long. The world was now talking about climate change and has expressed concern, he added. India had taken pro-active measures to discourage use of fossil fuels in a bid to reduce carbon foot print. (UNI)
