Palghar:The MBVV police rescued as many as 25 cattles including cow, calf and buffalo which were kept locked in a room in most unhygienic conditions for slaughter, the police said.
The MBVV police said in a statement on Friday night that it was on Thursday the police at Nalla Sopara got a tip-off that some cattle were kept locked for slaughter in a locality in the town.
The police team raided the place in Vaza Mohalla of Nalla Sopara and rescued the cattle which were kept ready for slaughter. The police also found the tempo parked there which was used for the transportation of the cattle.
The police arrested the duo who had held them captive and their names were given as Saddam Mohammad Rafique, (27) and Sahanavaz Shah, (36) both drivers.
The police also said the total seizure including the rescued cattle, tempo and other accessories meant for slaughter were valued at Rs. 12.95 lakhs. The rescued cattle have been sent to the cattle shed for further safety. The people who were caught were charged for illegal slaughter of the cattle.
An offence under various sections pertaining to protection, safety of animals and their transportation has been registered with Nalla Sopara police station against the duo who have been arrested.
