Thief who owned gold worth 1 crore by snatching chains from 105 peoples, arrested

Bengaluru:Police were taken aback when a notorious chain snatcher, who after recovering from bullet injury in the hospital, revealed that he was involved in 105 chain snatching cases and on his information recovered from him Rs 1.06 Crore worth gold chains robbed by him.
City Police Commissioner Suneel Kumar told newsmen here on Tuesday that the accused Achuthkumar Gani was shot by police on July 17 when he tried to escape after snatching chain from a lonely walking women in Jnanabharati Nagar, in the outskirts of the city.  He sustained bullet injuries on his leg and was admitted to Hospital. He was taken into custody today after he recovered.
 
The preliminary investigation has revealed that he was involved in 73 chain snatching cases in Bengaluru and 28 in Dharawad district.The accused was a notorious chain snatcher and 18 warrants were pending against him.  He used to sell the stolen articles through his friend Gavisiddesh and he was also arrested.
 
It was alleged that his wife Mahadevi, who is since absconding after his arrest, was also helping him in his crime.Police have also seized five motorbikes used by him for criminal activities.(UNI)
