Punjab: Halwai stabs temple priest to death for refusing food in Dasuya

Hoshiarpur: A priest of a temple was stabbed to death at Dasuya town, 40 kms from here, last night, police said.

According to the Dasuya police station SHO Sub Inspector Gurpreet, priest Iklesh Pande of Hilgan, Sagar (Madhya Pradesh), presently serving as a priest in Mitti Put Khuhi temple in Dasuya town, was allegedly stabbed by Halwai Surinder Kumar alias Shinda of Boparai (Kapurthala).

A squabble took place between Halwai Surinder Kumar and priest Iklesh Pande at the residence of the latter when the former demanded some food from him on Wednesday night. After the squabble Halwai Surinder Kumar left the house and priest Iklesh Pande went to close the gate of the temple. When Iklesh Pande reached near the temple gate Surinder Kumar suddenly appeared there and under a fit of rage allegedly stabbed the priest.

The seriously wounded priest Iklesh Pande was admitted in a private hospital at Jalandhar where he succumbed to his injuries.

SI Gurpreet said that Halwai Surinder Kumar had been arrested under relevant sections of the IPC and investigation in the case is going on. (UNI)
