Chandigarh: Cutting across party lines, prominent leaders of all political parties in Punjab strongly condemned the incident of attempted sacrilege of Sri Guru Granth Sahib at Darbar Sahib in Golden Temple on Saturday.
Punjab Chief Minister Charanjit Singh Channi, the CMO said, strongly condemned the most unfortunate and heinous act to attempt sacrilege of Sri Guru Granth Sahib in the sanctum sanctorum of Sri Harmandir Sahib during the path of Sri Rehras Sahib.
He directed state police authorities to thoroughly probe into entire matter to zero in at the underlying motive and real conspirators behind this dastardly act.
Channi also called up Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) president and assured his government's full support and cooperation to get into the bottom of the case.
Former Punjab chief minister and Punjab Lok Congress chief Capt Amarinder Singh, in a tweet said, "Strongly condemn the horrific incident of attempted sacrilege of Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji at Darbar Sahib. Govt must get to the bottom of what led this man to act in such a despicable manner."
Five times Punjab chief minister and Akali Dal Patron Parkash Singh Badal described the heinous attempt to commit sacrilege at Sachkhand Shri Harmandar Sahib as 'deeply shocking and exceedingly painful.'
He said that the crime was too reprehensible for words and it has caused "deep anguish and outrage in the minds of the Sikh masses all over the world".
The veteran Akali Dal leader said that it was unbelievable that "such a painful and brazen crime could be committed at "the holiest shrine of humanity" by an individual, adding that the possibility of a deep rooted conspiracy behind it cannot be ruled out. He said that the whole conspiracy needs to be probed, exposed and those behind it be given exemplary punishment.
Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) president Sukhbir Singh Badal also expressed "shock and disbelief at the most heinous outrage of the attempt to commit sacrilege at the highest and the holiest shrine Sachkhand Shri Harmandar Sahib."
"It is impossible to believe that this could be the act of just one person. There clearly is a deep rooted conspiracy behind it. Never since the Mughals, the Masands and the Operation Bluestar has the sanctity of Shri Harmandar Sahib been made the target of such outrage. This is beyond belief," he said.
Mr Badal said that today's development has left the entire Sikh community in a state of shock. He said, "There seems a conspiracy to inflict wounds and to disturb peace and communal harmony in the state."
He came down heavily against the state government saying that there were strong indications of such a conspiracy being weaved. Only the other day, there was a shocking incident of Gutka Sahib being thrown in the holy sarovar. After that, the state agencies could not have been unaware of a deep rooted conspiracy that led to today's shocking event. But no one did anything nor took any steps to prevent such a heinous crime from happening. What are the intelligence agencies doing?" the SAD chief asked.
Badal said that there clearly is a deep rooted conspiracy going on and those at the helm have a lot to answer for this. (UNI)
