Hoshiarpur (Punjab): A case of alleged sacrilege involving the Sikh religious scripture Guru Granth Sahib has come to light during the Hukamnama at Gurdwara Shri Guru Ravidass in Pota village of Hoshiarpur district, police said on Thursday.

Mukerian subdivision Deputy Superintendent of Police Bipan Kumar said during the recitation of the Hukamnama from Shri Guru Granth Sahib, the two Pathees (reciters of the Granth) of the Gurdwara discovered that two pages (Angs) had been cut with a sharp object.

Subsequently, upon inspection of another Saroop (a physical copy of Shri Guru Granth Sahib) kept at the Sukh Asan Sthan (a designated resting place for the scripture) within the same Gurdwara, it was found that one Ang was taped and there were cut marks on some Angs.

The Gurdwara in question, occupying approximately 3 Marlas of land, is not registered, and no CCTV cameras are installed on the Premises, said DSP Kumar.

According to the DSP, an FIR has been lodged by the police in connection with this incident and a thorough investigation is currently underway.
