Chandigarh/New Delhi: Deep Sidhu, a Punjabi actor who was alleged prime suspect of violence that ensued at Red Fort on Republic Day last year, died in a road accident on Tuesday.
A senior police official told UNI that Sidhu died after his car hit a stationary truck near Pipli toll Kharkhoda area on Kundli-Maneser-Palwal Expressway.
Sidhu's name surfaced during violence on Republic Day last year, as he was prime suspect in the case. Sidhu had been facing a case for engineering the violence that ensued at the Red Fort last year.
Police said he was seriously injured and died. The body has been shifted to hospital for autopsy. The probe is being done to ascertain the facts.
On this incident, Chief Minister of Punjab Charanjit Singh Channi tweeted, "Deeply saddened to learn about the unfortunate demise of renowned actor and social activist, Deep Sidhu. My thoughts and prayers are with the bereaved family and fans." (UNI)
