New Delhi: Expressing readiness to face trial in a defamation case for making comments against RSS in respect of the assassination of Father of the Nation Mahatma Gandhi, Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi today withdrew his petition in the Supreme Court to quash the suit.
Making the submission before a division bench of Justices R F Nariman and Dipak  Mishra, Mr Gandhi's counsel Kapil Sibal said his client was ready to face the trial in the lower court. After his comment a trend surfaced on twitter with #rahulrattlesrss.

He is confused, suffers from amnesia: BJP on Rahul statement

Hitting back at Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi on ''RSS statement'' in the context of the killing of Father of the Nation, Mahtama Gandhi, the BJP today said the Congress scion "suffers from amnesia".

''Rahul suffers from amnesia and let the Court decide what it thinks about it, '' Union Minister of State for Skill Development and Entrepreneurship Rajiv Pratap Rudy said in response to a question while addressing a joint conference along with BJP spokesperson Shahnawaz Hussain on Bihar flood situation.Reacting on the same issue, Mr Hussain said, ''Rahul is confused and backtracks from his statements.''

Rahul continues to stand by his words about RSS: Congress asserts

Congress today asserted that there is no ambiguity in the stance taken by party vice-president Rahul Gandhi over the issue of RSS and he remains unmoved over comments made by him in reference of 'role' of people of the Hindu outfit in the killing of Mahatma Gandhi.

Addressing mediapersons here this afternoon, Congress spokesman Randeep Singh Surjewala said, "Mr Gandhi while addressing a meeting at Thane on March 6, 2014 had said that RSS people have killed the Mahatma. The RSS people, then filed a criminal defamation case against him, which is pending before the Bombay High Court and the Supreme Court."

Despite the matter being sub judice, there were contradictory reports in a section of media -- some suggesting that Mr Gandhi has taken U-turn over the issue. However, this is not correct and accordingly Mr Gandhi's counsel Kapil Sibal was directed to make clear the factual position before the court, Mr Surjewala said.
