Rain fury poses fresh flash flood threat in HP- Uttarakhand ; brings Satluj & Ganga in spate

New Delhi:Monsoon fury posed fresh flash flood threat in several areas in Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand bringing in spate rivers and seasonal rivulets including the Ganga and the Satluj. Sudden increase in level of water, muck and silt in Satluj has forced the authorities to order shut down in somethree vital hydro power plants as precautionary measure.

In the national capital here, heavy downpour affected normal life, causing problem of waterlogging and traffic jams in a number of localities. The Southwest monsoon has been active over Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, Tripura, Gangetic West Bengal, Odisha, Jharkhand, Bihar, eastern Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Haryana, east Rajasthan and Chhattisgarh. It has been subdued over Gujarat Region, Marathwada, Vidarbha and north interior Karnataka. Meanwhile, the Meteorology Department has issued warning for heavy to very heavy rain at some places in Western Uttar Pradesh and at places in Assam and Meghalaya during next 24 hours.
 
A report from Shimla said wide spread rains lashed the state leading to sudden rise in water level in the Satluj and other seasonal rivulets. Increase in silt and muck in the river led to the suspension of power generation in the 1500MW Nathpa Jhakri Power Project, a senior officer told UNI. Deputy Commissioner Kinnuar Naresh Lath said that Sangala Tong Tongchai Nalah last night washed away the pipes, Khul and culvert of water supply schemes affecting the supply in the Sangla sub-division.
 
A report from Dehradun said high altitude areas and other parts of Uttarakhand received wide spread downpour since last night. Moderate rain have been occurred in Dehradun, Haridwar, Pithoragarh, Almora and Bageshwar. Almost all major rivers in the state are in spate. In the pilgrim town Haridwar, the Ganga river was nearing the danger mark. People living in low lying areas were asked to move to safer places. In Delhi, normal life was disrupted as heavy rains led to water logging and traffic jams, adding to the woes of the commuters, who faced difficulty in reaching their destinations.
 
Rain fury caused water logging, uprooting of tree, building collapse, potholes and traffic jams in several localities including Safdarjung, AIIMS, Okhla, Badarpur, Ashram Chowk, Aurobindo Marg, Model town, Shahdara, Dwarka Sector 6 and 7, Under Palam Flyover, Chatta Rail, Malka Ganj, Azad Market, Baraf Khana, Ashok Vihar Underpass, Defence Colony Flyover, INA, Moolchand, Sadik Nagar, Hyatt, IP flyover, Panchsheel Flyover, Raj Ghat, Anand Vihar, Wazirabad Road, Meet Nagar, Nand Nagri Flyover, Ring Road and other parts of the city.
 
Traffic jams were reported at PTS Mallvaya Nagar, Ignou Road, Okhla underpass, Palam Underpass, Sangam Vihar, Modi Mill, Asia Market Saket. The city has received 43 mm rainfall in Safdarjung area, Ridge 42.2 mm, Ayanagar 20.9 mm, while Pala 41.6 mm. Heavy rainfall also occurred at many places over Arunachal Pradesh, eastern Uttar Pradesh, Haryana, Jammu and Kashmir,Eastern Rajasthan, Western Madhya Pradesh, Karala and Lakshadweep, Punjab, Vidarbha, Gujarat, coastal Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, Tamil Nadu, south interior Karnataka and Andaman and Nicobar Islands, reports reaching here said.
